High School Musical Movie: Highly Approved By Parents

We have asked several parents about what they think with the sweeping popularity of the High School Musical movie that is reaching feverish levels on children. The answer is unanimously positive. Some even went to the extent of bringing forward the idea of endorsing the High School Musical movie to the kids as not only does it espouse great moral but also promotes positive values of “doing what it is that they set their minds to despite what their friends think.”

Parents say it not only does it have good production performance with its catchy tunes, it also promotes high morals. In other words, it’s “clean.” Even the lead characters, Troy and Gabriella never even kissed on the original movie (although they almost did—several times.) They only kissed towards the ending of the second movie. You don’t see anybody smoking from among the characters, and even the cunning Sharpay remains tolerable in the eyes of the parents as how one would tolerate a spoiled rich kid.

The story kicks off with two innocent-looking kids attending a New Year’s Eve party. They ended up randomly picked to sing together on stage. Both discovered they have some talents in singing but they parted ways barely knowing each other. Fate must have it then that they meet again at school as Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) is a transferee and this is where the High School Musical movie kicks off to its peaks and valleys story-telling.

Both lead characters are talented, Troy (Zac Efron) is the school’s basketball team captain, and is obviously a good child to his Dad while Gabriella is an intelligent but unassuming student.

Let us not forget that this is a Walt Disney movie. And just like any Cinderella or Snow White story, there wouldn’t be any fairy tale without the wicked witch character. Enter Sharpay, the manipulative, self-engrossed drama queen. Sharpay and her sidekick brother Ryan are the anti-heroes of the story (although a bit two-dimensional in personification) as they continually plot and plan evil deeds against Troy and Gabriella.

The lead characters of the High School Musical movie characteristically dodged or endured Sharpays wickedness and just went on with pursuing what they wanted to accomplish without any misdemeanors. Against the approval of their friends, they went on to audition in an upcoming school musical. A nice message that subliminally tells our young kids watching that it is okay to pursue your dream, and that if, sometimes, your friends don’t agree, it doesn’t mean that you are on the wrong track.

The High School Musical movie also depicts the value of friendship and caring for each other. When the Wildcats and Gabriella’s friends saw that our heroes are not happy with the way things are going, they changed tack and supported Troy and Gabriella. That’s when they realized that if they work together, anything can happen.

Another valuable lesson learned from this movie is that you can do something else besides the stereotype that others would brand you. Gabriella’s nerd friends teamed up with the “jocks.”

The High School Musical movie is a feel-good story with lots of positive values, memorable songs, and great dance numbers.
